Cybercrime

What makes the best cybercrime lawyer in Tehran?

In cybercrime, the first hour matters more than the first month. Evidence you can see today may be gone tomorrow. Here is what to keep, how to recognise the right lawyer, and what I can do for you. I am Seyed Mahdi Mousavi, a trainee lawyer in Tehran.

Someone opens a spouse's phone, a private photo is posted online, an Instagram account is hacked, or money disappears from a bank account through a fake link. Iran's cybercrime law has a name for each of these, but proving them depends on digital evidence.

My job is to tell you what counts as a crime, what you must record and save, where and how to file the complaint, and, if you are the accused, where the defense should begin.

Cybercrimes I see most often

Whether you are the complainant or the accused, the case starts from one of these headings:

Unauthorised access to phones, email and accounts

Getting into a spouse's, colleague's or friend's phone or messenger without permission, even if you know the password, can be an offence. It is one of the questions I hear most.

Spreading private photos and videos

For the victim, and for someone accused of forwarding. Recording the links quickly and requesting removal both matter.

Online fraud

Fake online shops, forged payment pages, online investment and crypto schemes. Tell your bank at once and keep every receipt.

Online insults, defamation and false claims

Comments, posts, stories and private messages each have a different standing. What counts is that the evidence was documented properly.

Threats and blackmail with digital content

If someone threatens you with your photos or data, do not send money, and start documenting right now.

Forgery and hacking of a site or business account

If you run an online business, your logs and access history are your most important evidence.

Documents and a magnifying glass on a case review desk

Preserve this evidence before anything else

In cyber cases the fight is usually about proof, not about whether something happened. The list below is a starting point.

  • Screenshots with date and time. Capture the whole screen so the address, username and time are visible.
  • Exact links and profile names. A profile or post can vanish; note the link and username separately.
  • Bank receipts and text messages. If money was transferred, keep the receipt and tracking number and tell the bank quickly.
  • Keep the device untouched. Resetting a phone or removing apps can wipe out important traces.

Common mistakes in these cases

Deleting chats and accounts in anger

It destroys the most important evidence and can even be used against you.

Retaliating by posting about the other person

You can turn from complainant into accused. Answer through legal channels.

Paying the blackmailer

Paying does not end the threat; it usually continues.

Admitting things in chats or calls

Anything you send can be presented in the file later.

Waiting too long to file

The longer it takes, the harder it is to trace and preserve evidence.

Victim or accused in a cyber case? Call early

Every hour that passes makes evidence harder to preserve. A short call is enough to clear the route.

How to recognise the best cybercrime lawyer in Tehran

Cybercrime is a technical field, and the right lawyer has to know the law and also be able to work with digital evidence:

  • They know the cybercrime law and the procedures of the FATA police and prosecutor, and explain them clearly.
  • They give you practical guidance on preserving digital evidence.
  • They do not give a firm opinion before seeing the documents and links.
  • Their licence can be verified and they sign a written contract.
  • If the case has low odds, they say so at the start.
  • They stay responsive throughout the case.

I would like to be judged by these same standards. If you want, a short call is enough to see whether we are a good fit.

FAQ

Questions people ask me most

Is opening my spouse's phone a crime?

In many cases, yes. Entering someone else's accounts or phone without consent, even between spouses, can be examined as unauthorised access or a privacy violation. The details depend on what actually happened. The cybercrime guide (in Persian) covers it at length.

Where do I file a cybercrime complaint?

Usually through the FATA police or directly with the prosecutor's office. The better route depends on the offence and how fast you need to move. In bank fraud you should also notify the bank at the same time.

What should I do if my private photo was posted?

First save the links and screenshots, then start the removal request and the complaint. Do not argue with the person who posted it and do not pay anything; call me and we will work out the route together.

Who is the best cybercrime lawyer in Tehran?

There is no official ranking. The right lawyer knows how to work with digital evidence, reads your documents before giving an opinion, and does not promise a result. You can apply the checklist above to any lawyer.

Can I file from outside Tehran?

Yes. Most of the work runs on digital documents and consultation is by phone. Cases are accepted from across Iran.
